You don’t want me to own you
So you sell yourself to
The next highest bidder because
They offered a reasonable price
[Though I deemed you priceless].
But you know I’m not one to share;
Maybe that’s why you reject my bid-
Because no one will ever make
The best use of you like I will
And no one will understand
Your very function as I have.
I know your intrinsic value-
The worth below surface smiles
And contrived humor appeals.
I know your weaknesses,
The quirks no one else notices.
But in allowing me to claim you,
You will admit your powerlessness
The vulnerability will be exposed
For me to take advantage of.
And maybe I’ll do just that.
But in the end, you have your life:
Your friends
That I will never associate with,
Your routines
That I will never be part of
And that will never change.
