Stage One: Dealing with it
This is where the heart has just been broken,
And you are unsure if it can ever be fixed.
You wonder if you can live without them
Because it feels like a part of you is missing
And you’re convinced only they can fill it.
You don’t know where the next heartbeat
Will take you and, frankly, if it means being
Without them, you’d rather not find out.
Stage Two: Seeking revenge
This is where the heart no longer feels sorrow
Instead it starts to look for ways to settle
The score with the one who broke it.
You hold them accountable for all the pain
They caused you, and you can’t understand
How they could have moved on so quickly.
So you find some poor person to make them
Jealous to prove you can substitute them.
Stage Three: Moving on
This is where the heart has repaired itself.
They have stopped crossing your mind,
And you realize there is a glimmer of hope
You will meet someone new soon
And probably even better than the last.
You hate yourself for feeling so strongly,
But you’re glad you let yourself love,
Even if you got your heart broken.
