Anatomy of a Fish

Folder:
Extended Metaphors

An angelfish’s gills

open up exhaling

what she kept to self

pertaining to

an ineffective fin

that caused her

to swim in circles.

The bubbles created

in aquatic depths

travel to a piranha

within earshot

who boasts

a ravenous appetite

for meaty secrets.

This fish pierced

her scaly flesh

with hooks

of betrayal.

What a utterly

cold-blooded,

spineless thing to do.

He trapped her

behind glass displays,

exploiting her

for the sake

of recreational gossip

as she was exhibited

like a public spectacle.

She became a

fish out of water,

jumping out from

treacherous fish tanks,

landing on

welcoming tabletops

belly up

because she could

not breathe in

the air of freedom

when she had

become accustomed

to the stench

of untrustworthiness.
