OLD OVERHOLT

Curiosity kills the cat, they say.  I was intrigued by the label on a bottle.  It was turned slightly away so I couldn’t read all of it.  It seemed like it was reading “ Old Overhound.”  It was a rye whiskey.  I decided that I really needed to order a shot to try it out.  I guess I get quirky that way.

Mispronounce the name

but it’s the right thing to do

ordering that shot

We come to the discovery that’s it is really “ Old Overholt.”  My phone allows me my research and due diligence.  I had to figure it all out.  This rye whiskey was first made in 1810 in West Overton, PA.  It is considered the oldest continuously produced whiskey in the United States.  But now it’s owned by Suntory and made in Kentucky.  It was said to be Doc Holliday’s rye of choice.  It was also favored by several presidents.  So I stumbled upon an American classic.
