Many claims

to be the voice

for the voiceless 

But it’s not best portrayed

by a straight edge poseur

who does all the talking 

It’s best to provide a space

for the voiceless to speak 

Street poet and academic poet

on equal footing

The Ivory Tower, The Hood,

college campuses, street corners,

bookstores and coffee shops

all finding a place to speak

So we find a home for everyone

to speak their piece and make their peace.

The voiceless don’t need anyone

to speak on their behalf

They need a podium

and a microphone

and a simple chance

to speak for themselves
