the boarded up stores

and restaurants imply

the doomed future

for urban and suburban dwellers

side street hustlers slap stickers

and graffiti artists add tags

to designate their turf;

existential threats

posed by epic pandemics

and creeping malaise

of reactionary religion

as Jesus is largely ignored

in favor of doomsayers

wishing to fulfill Revelations

and the end of humanity

to serve the false prophets

of their fallacies
