Asking for a pepperoni slice

and mushroom slice

hoping they pull a large slice

there’s a few open booths

one is occupied by the proprietor

his keys and paperwork

littered on the table

a couple preteens sitting

with pizza and soda

at another booth

the slices are properly heated

I lace them up with garlic;

oregano and red peppers

a tad too much garlic

but you can never

be too careful these days

what with vampires and the like

roaming around freely
