The Carters seem

like such lovely people

I mean I really do

appreciate

all the personalized labels

they send me

when asking

for a donation

for Habitat for Humanity

and I believe

in what they’re doing

it’s such a lovely cause

and I always feel

I should send more money

to do my part

to help out

such a noble cause

but somehow

I never seem

to write out enough checks

and get them in the mail

I just stumble along

with the very best

of intentions

but nothing ever

seems to happen

as I just sit here

popping a label

onto an envelope

to pay another bill

and reflecting on

how I’m actually now

too old to be officially

called a slacker

but the alternate handles

for one such as me

are likely a tad bit harsher
