Artists are notorious whores

I reluctantly admit

I would be remiss

to do no less

I don’t trust them on the gate

or any other take

but it’s always been

a fool’s errand

or a silly labor of love

no dividends forthcoming

but a delusional knave

will see the silver lining

even when it’s mere crayon drawing

etched over the actual line
