It’s been a long
time
since I’ve
been so
far away
I headed out on
a warm
June evening
and fate carried
me away
to see what
was going on
I made it out to sunny
California
only to
discover that
God’s country
doesn’t exist
It was still a nice
trip
and I was
enjoying
the ride
I knew I would have
to carry
on into the night
The search for the
American Dream
was underway
I had my stay in the hay
and she
were sweet
but
there was
still no
sign of
the American Dream
We head east, stopover in Denver
and find
out way
to Minneapolis
a disaster set in as
we settled
into Minneapolis
and broke
I had to
move on
to our next
destination
in East Troy,
Wisconsin
which turned out to
be a
little better
and my spirits
began to rise
Now I was feeling
all right
and a move
to Cincinnati
was inevitable
It was a harrowing ride
but we
made it
just the same
into Cincinnati we pulled
and I felt
pretty good
but the day rolled by
and a good
might’s sleep
ended the day
It was time to roll again
and we set
off for Akron
our next destination
and it was a fine ride
as we rode
on with
nary a hitch
and we grooved
into Akron
and made it
our own
but all things
must come
to an end
and we
still hadn’t
found the
American Dream
I was rejoicing merely
being aware
of my
livelihood
I had warm thoughts
as the bus
rolled on
and we headed
to Buffalo
The road was long
and hard
but we felt
fine
and we had
our time
to kill
a long trip indeed
and a strange one
at that
I still felt fine
as the
night rolled
by and we
pulled into Buffalo
to celebrate
Independence Day
and I had thoughts
about what is
the American Dream
Finally we were close
to home
but I was
no closer
to finding
the dream
There was a stop home
and then we
were on
to Washington DC
and after two days
were thru
I rambled on
and wound up
home again
without finding
the American Dream
but at least
realizing
that it did
in fact
exist
