When I was
in San Francisco
I had a great time
North Beach is awesome
Chinatown is quite impressive
Golden Gate Pari
and the Haight Asbury district
were real trips for a young DeadHead
But I had a few fools
trying to put the fear into me
They warned me vehemently
against using the public bathrooms
in San Francisco
I had read some
of John Giorno’s works
on the public bathrooms
in New York City
I surmised that
San Francisco
might be even bolder
I did need to take a dump
before catching a bus
back to Sacramento
I almost went in
but caught myself
I was like “Whoa”
and gracelessly glided
backwards
out of the bathroom
I figured I could wait
until I got back
to San Francisco
So I hop the bus
back to Sacramento
I sleep on the bus
and wake up in Sacramento
I get off the bus
and go into the bathroom
at the bus station
the stall is rather unkempt
I was like
“Okay, the hotel is
only six blocks away.”
It was one of those times
when you have to walk
really fast while clamping
your butt cheeks shut
but luckily I made it
back to hotel in time
and avoided getting into
an embarrassing situation
It was painful
but I survived
My neurotic paranoia
gets me into trouble
more often than
I know how to handle
and the truth is
I really ought to know better
than to harbor such foolish fears
that serve no benefit to anyone
and end up hurting myself
for no reason at all
