Getting off the train

and walking behind

a lovely Latin woman

It’s raining

so she opens

up an umbrella

I put on my rain poncho

and adjust to cover myself

and my backpack

She turns back

and looks at me

with a coy smile

I nod my head

softly whisper “Hello.”

with a half smile

Her smile broadens

and then she walks off

turning down the street

at the corner

I realize

I’m going in the other direction

I just shrug

and follow along

toward my destination.
