The sad thing

about Jerry Garcia’s death

is that Dead Heads

may end up being no better

than Elvis freaks

there’ll be the ones

that stay in a state

of permanent denial

maybe Jerry is jamming

with Jim Morrison in Africa

or else

you’ll get the multiple

varieties of conspiracies

that heads will cling to

the CIA was involved

the FBE, the FCC

Jesse Helms or Rush Limbaugh

Conspired to snuff him out

or maybe it was

his wife

that did it

he kicks a habit,

quits smoking, works out,

gets healthy

then gets married

and has a sudden relapse

back onto the smack

maybe Ticketmaster did it

or record company execs

wanted to boost sales

I just hope this tragedy

doesn’t end up being

trivialized in a movie

but I get a creeping feeling

that conspiracy theories

on the death of a 60’s icon

will be enough

to get Oliver Stone off and running
