for the publishing press

and thinking

of applying for grants

find out

all the private funds

since I don’t accept

the government ones

I could always

try applying

for a Rex Foundation grant

that’s a foundation

started by the Grateful Dead

to help charities

and arts groups in need

Phil Lesh, the bass player

is heavily involved

in the foundation

I can mention

all the Dead shows

I’ve been to

Getting a grant from them

would be like a refund

a rebate for my loyal support

I can write my letter:

Dear Mr. Lesh, sir,

you always were

my favorite member

of the band

I always thought

that Garcia guy

was holding you back

If Garcia was Captain Trips

I always felt you should be Admiral Trips

maybe throw in

a Phil Zone sticker

to butter him up

even more

you gotta know

how to play the game

It ain’t gonna hurt
