Oh how we have tried to live

and given of ourselves 

all that we had to give

yet the world tends to proclive

callousness one could not forgive

and why? alas we shall never know

so into the shadows we go

Look carefully under that lamp

an ugly truth hides in plain sight

born of, and yet untouched by light

a spot akin to souls of men

endless, and yet devoid of ken

and why? alas we shall never know

so into the shadows we go

T’is to the shadows that we belong

where sweet is the siren song

of oblivion dark and deep 

and undisturbed, eternal sleep

but beware, the world will call your bluff

and should you choose to cast off your slough

the living shall forget you soon enough

and why? alas we shall never know
