The War We Lost

Hark! The angles sing,
melodic and entrancing,
alongside the earthly bells that do ring.

Hark! The people cry,
resonant and high,
alongside the feral seraphs that do die.

Once more unto the breach,
brave heroes that embark to beseech,
for the fight is no longer lone angels and demons each.

The mortals did forget
their child-some quarrels and fits,
for now they had new things to abuse and hit.

Hark! The humans sing,
hopeless and faltering,
alongside the heavenly caskets that sorrow brings.

Hark! The angels cry,
singing, "Oh how, oh why?"
alongside the earthly voices that usher a defeated sigh.

Once more unto the breach, brave heroes,
for hopes to save us in our dying throes,
Once more unto the battle,
Once more unto death.
