and the shot

of blackberry brandy

has been poured

I sit back and look

at the shot glass

and glance 

at the bottle

This is ritual

not abandoned

even in the wee hours

Always take a moment

to contemplate the shot

before throwing it down

a simple study

in patience

that takes a mere

30 seconds or so.
