Some flowers need warmth and water to grow
but the blue winter roses will only get snow
sorely, they grow, up toward the light
through the harshest of weather, the cold winter's white
their bright red brothers, showered with care
have not the love their blue sisters share
for the sun and the rains, each day is a struggle
by night, no warmness with which to snuggle
but the ones that survive, through the days and the nights
have roots like steel, and thorns for the fights
but when in bloom, tall, blue and splendid
they outshine their brothers who were so well tended.
for the true beauty of the blue winter rose
radiates from surviving the cruel winter throes.
