My brother’s Real Sociedad jersey is pretty much a definition of him. He adores that jersey only because his favorite mexican soccer player, Carlos Vela, plays in that team. I am used to think to myself “Why Real Sociedad?” because it is no way close to being one of the best teams in the world. He talks too much about Real Sociedad. He watches their games. He shows me game highlights online. When my uncle visited San Sebastian, home of Real Sociedad, my brother didn’t hesitate to ask my uncle to get him his jersey with Carlos Vela’s number on the back. When he received his jersey, his mind was blown, I mean, the look on his face showed a huge amount of happiness. I couldn’t believe he wore the jersey three times the same week. I could understand why that jersey meant so much for him because I felt the same way when I got my first Cruz Azul jersey. He has worn it during exercise and even while he sleeps. Of course, when I was in Madrid, the only thing he asked me to get him as a gift was the newest Real Sociedad jersey, also with Carlos Vela’s number on the back. I got him the jersey, but when he received it, the expression on his face was different from when he got his first jersey. Of course, it didn’t have Carlos Vela’s number on the back since it was impossible to get. Still, he keeps it and he wears it, but the happiness he expressed when he got the first jersey was enormous. His friends tease him when he wears it in front of them because it is not the best team, yet he never backs down and keeps on wearing it with pride. Nobody wears that jersey but him. He has never even let me wear it. He keeps taking good care of it when it is being washed. It is such a big deal to him. I sometimes imagine how he would react if he ever saw me wearing his jersey. How would he react if the jersey was stained?. Every time he plays soccer with his friends, he wears the jersey. When he scores a goal, the first thing he will do is imagine that he is Carlos Vela and celebrate like Vela does on the field after scoring. It is impressive how a simple piece of clothing can mean so much.
