At the start of the race
Was the turtle and hare
Each started at their pace
When the hare gave a mischevous stare
The race started well
For the fast natured hare
But the turtle trudged along
As if he did not care
Slow and steady wins the race
The turtle had said
The hare had recalled
But the memory he shed
I'm faster than the turtle
I'll win this with ease
As he got to half way
He felt the warm summer breeze
The turtle will be ages
I'll take a nap right here
Said the hare
Now looking sneer
With that he closed his eyes
And under a tree he lie
While the turtle caught him up
And soon did pass him by
By the time the hare had woke
The clock hand had moved two strokes
It had now been two hours
This was now no time for jokes
The hare jumped up
And ran his way to the end
But as he got in sight
He saw his very friend
The turtle had begun slow
Took his time to show
The hare a lesson
That being fast isn't all you need to know
Slow and steady wins the race
The turtle said as he crossed the line
And the hare looked in awe
I wish first place were mine
The turtle had won
And the hare did winged
The hare was too cocky
Opposed to the turtle who now grinned
Learn this lesson well
And take it in your pace
With this knowledge
You too could win the race
