I looked at death today
it did not smile at me
his face was gaunt and pale.
his fingers gnarled and bony.
he did not cast a shadow.
nor breath did he emit.
a shroud conceals the relics
of a body that once was.
Alone.lifeless.souless, but,
still proud in all his glory.
i smiled at death today.
no more am I afraid.
for harm he cannot do me.
i stand in awe and wonder.
cause he is old as time.
respect is what he asks for.
respect he does demand.
i looked at death today.
and offered him my hand.
