The biggest decision in life
It’s all about finding out what to study in college, some high schools do a great job at motivating students, and others don’t try to connect with the student to find out what’s their passion. Bill is a junior year student, who is trying to get into the most competitive colleges in the U.S, but Bill feels that he started too late to worry about college. The only thing that Bill thinks is to make his family proud and specially his father. Christmas break was around the corner, so that was the perfect opportunity for Bill to meditate, and find out if he really wants to be an industrial engineer or any other type of engineering. However, life was coming down fast, and a decision must be taken. Bill gets a call from his parents, and he is told that they will travel to New Orleans. Bill’s family has never preferred to have Christmas at home because doing dishes and cooking is always a struggle. They prefer going to one of those fix menu dinners, where they wait for six courses, and everything is delicious. Once arrived to New Orleans everything is perfect zero stress, and no more school work or homework. Life for Bill was as peaceful as it gets. They also seem to have a very good time at that beignets place in Café du Monde, I wish I could feel hunger, I never seen such happy faces before until I saw that place. Now, Bill seem to be remember about his life, after plenty of days of being nonchalant. He suddenly remembers that he must go back to real life, and face his life. His entire day went down crashing down overthinking everything about his plans for college. while going crazy about his future plans, he encounters a humble black man, who seem to be low income that had a souvenir stand at the street. The man suddenly reads Bill entirely all his thoughts, and his face.
The man says- Hey kid, what do you want to study?
All of the sudden Bill was shocked, how can this man know? Is this an angel? Is this a message from God?
Bill answers- Of course, I want to be an engineer.
The man says- Oh… An engineer, so you are smart huh…
Bill says- Well… I try to haha… (laughing nervously)
The man says- Do you know what kind of engineering you want to do?
Bill says- Well… I was thinking about industrial or mechanical still not sure…
The man says- You know my daughter is an industrial engineer, and she is making a lot of money. All I can say is you need to work hard if you want to be an engineer.
Bill says- I can’t…
The man says- You can’t believe that a guy at a stand on the street is telling you what you must do.
The man was right, and Bill was shocked. Bill started to become extremely happy because he found out his inner motivation and drive to make a decision and don’t look back.
Bill finally understood that the only problem is not feeling bad for starting late, but continue growing and keep moving forward no matter what.
