Kyra (epic poem)

There was a girl,

In a far away land,

Where the mountains were high,

And the sky was clear.

The girl I speak of,

Was beautiful and fair.

She had fair skin

Long, flowing blonde hair

With just a little curl at the end.

Her eyes were a midnight blue

And her smile could light up a room.

Her name was Kyra

Named after the sun by which

Her beauty comes from.

Beautiful and fair she may be

But worthless she felt.

For no royal blood

Swam in her veins.

Day after day,

Night after night,

She cleans

And she toils.

Hoping to be someone

Hoping to go somewhere.

She dreams of her prince,

Riding upon a white stallion.

She looks to the hills

And wishes.

Upon the first star she sees

She wishes.

She looked to the palace

Looked for signs

She watched the sun rise

And the sun set over the towers.

She went to sleep at night,

Dreaming of her prince.

But awoke to find herself

In a lonely peasant’s home.

But to her surprise

One day

The stallion came.

The whole town gathered

Gathered to see him riding

From off the mountain.

She pushed passed people

She elbowed the elderly

Just to get a better look at the prince.

As the prince slowed down

To let the people bask in his glory

He looked at her

The prince saw Kyra

Oh was she happy.

But he rides on

Not even looking back.

She dreams for weeks

She dreams of him coming back

To sweep her off her feet.

[This is where the hero comes in]

Riku was just a common boy

Nothing to his name

But always had his eyes on Kyra

He was not the best looking

Or the smartest by any means.

But what he lacked in looks

He made up for

In spirit, determination, and heart.

Boy did he have a heart.

When the prince rode through

Riku saw the prince

Look right over Krya

To the maid behind her,

To the big headed blonde.

A few weeks had passed,

And the prince returned.

Krya wished and wished

It was for her.

But he didn’t.

He came back to claim Hope,

The big headed blonde maid

Who stood right behind Kyra

When the prince first came through.

Kyra was heart broken.

She didn’t leave her home for weeks.

Riku came and tended to her garden

Her home and her horses.

He came by and checked on Kyra.

Riku was her only friend

Her only comfort.

Riku seemed to know everything about Kyra,

But she had never seen him.

When Kyra emerged,

She learned of the wedding

Between Hope

And the prince.

Again

She felt sorrow

But with Riku by her side

She was not destroyed.

For a few days

Riku was gone.

Kyra felt alone,

She missed her friend.

A few weeks had passed and Kyra spied

A white stallion galloping over the hills.

She continued tending to her garden

Waiting for Riku to return.

Suddenly she felt a breath on her shoulder,

Not of human nature though,

She thought

Perhaps her horses had gotten loose.

When she turned around,

To her surprise

She saw Riku

On top of the white stallion.

On top of that stallion Riku tells her

He wants her to run away with her

To go over the mountains

To see the sun rise

And the sun set

In a different background.

Krya was apprehensive at first

But as soon as Riku

Swept her off her feet

And placed her up on the saddle

She was sold.

They rode off in to the sunset.

Kyra and her hero,

Her savior

Her Riku.
