Eve of the end: The pathway lit by the ephemeral earthbound stardust

Time is never stagnant. It’s always moving, and it will not once stop; such is the strict law of our reality, and thus, time gives end to a multitude of things. We like ending things in style, though; the holidays are evidence of that. Every person celebrates their own holiday festivities the way they want; most of us do so with our families, though, and I love that we do. I usually don’t see my uncles or grandparents, probably because they are usually very busy, and so are my sister and I, so when the holidays approach and I remember that we’ll get to see them once again, I always get very excited. My uncles especially are a very happy bunch; they very frequently crack jokes and tell funny stories, and all of us love them; it’s not just me relaxing on vacations after having hard time with exams in college, but rather, them too spending precious time with their families and us; an occasion that everyone involved enjoys to the fullest. The way we usually celebrate Christmas Eve, for example, is first having my mom’s family over at home and spending time together and opening gifts until almost midnight, before which everyone leaves and we ourselves go visit my dad’s family over to their house and prepare for the arrival of Christmas day. In the case of New Year’s Eve, we do something similar, except without the gifts, of course. There’s something I always enjoyed about that car drive we always had almost at midnight when going to my dad’s family’s house, though, and that was the fireworks. The destination isn’t exactly far from home, it’s just a 15-minute drive, nothing lengthy; but I still loved seeing all the fireworks around us as the car drove by. It was like the entire sky lit up with the most colorful ant prettiest eye-candy, each light representing a different family having the time of their lives. It’s not exactly something I anticipated each time it happened, but every time it did, I loved every second of it. This past year’s Christmas Eve was the same. The experience happened once again and I still enjoyed it; there was something different this time around, though. While my mom’s family was over at home, I realized that I had to go get something outside; something trivial, really. I went to the store and got it very quickly, but before I got home, I decided to take a walk in the park near home and just enjoy the night for a few moments. There were no fireworks yet, though; midnight was still a long way away. Even then, I still felt the excitement I feel when I see them; I still saw the frantic lights all around me. This time they weren’t fireworks, though, but rather, the many families in the houses all around me having fun and enjoying the day, and most importantly, mine, that would be there when I returned home, ready to crack more jokes and tell more stories.
