you were my reason to live,
but it was only a dream,
when I awoke to the pain,
you were gone,
a strange new world to face,
nothing but the fear to keep me going,
escape the predators, live to fight
another day, bask in the shadows
where the light cannot singe the flesh,
love cannot betray the heart if there is
only hate, an impenetrable prison of emotion
must stay solitary, away from the heat of the
day,
