A Final Goodbye

We stood there on my porch.

You looked in my eyes,

Quiety you uttered "I'll miss you."

You didn't need to say it, I already knew

Those deep brown eyes were unsually sad

My body shivered in the cold as the artic wind blew.

You hugged me again,

An attempt to keep me warm, maybe?

Or did you just want to hold me one more time?

I looked at the ground,

And sheepishly told you to go.

You needed to say goodbye to your other friends as well.

My eyes started to swell up with salty tears.

I tried to be strong.

Your eyes stared into mine, and you kissed me hard.

A beautiful kiss I would never forget.

When you walked to your car a tear rolled off my cheek.

And as I walked inside I wondered,

Would you be back?

Or was this to be our last goodbye?

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is my favorite poem I've ever written and it's all true.  There is nothing worse than goodbye.
