That Little Pink Elephant
There it always was, that little pink guy staring one last time, keeping her safe until her last breath. My mothers little pink stuffed elephant, that which i had given to her some months before, but yet it was her most valued possession. I saw it in the gift shop looking at me softly, i bought it. To keep her safe to watch over her when i was not there. Cancer's the devil himself tormenting the patient and all of its relatives, you must understand i could not bare the sight every time she was hospitalized, so the little pink guy would keep watch over her for me. I entered the room elephant in on hand and 'la vie en rose' playing in my phone on the other. Her eyes sparkled with joy; she knew i could not withstand the sight, a smile lit up her lovely face as i gave it to her. "He will be there when i can't" i told her. To you the reader you should know, 'la vie en rose' was her favorite song. Day and night, she was with her little pink elephant, although it was the last 6 months on this earth, its the the thing i remember the most. She woke up one day in the hospital not knowing why she was there; she had reacted bad to a treatment and was bleeding inside, the first things she said was "how’s my son he had an exam today, and where my little pink elephant?". Those word will forever stay in my mind. The little pink guy always stood by her bed or in her arms, she never left his sight. So there he was glancing one last time at her, he had been the most with her on her last day, apart from my dad. Although the last weeks she was in an induced coma, i can tell she knew the little pink elephant was with her there too. She gave her last breaths and her heart stopped, the room went quiet and felt oh so cold. They took her away, and i took the little pink elephant with me, it never left my side on that life changing day. It now rests on her side of the bed, quietly watching over my father and me, but now he has a partner, my mother is with him, quietly watching over us.
