I Am Silent

I am silent—not because I’m afraid,

Not because I have nothing to say;

It's because I’m tracing all the pain

You left behind in my mind.

I am silent—not because I’m defeated,

Not because I turn away;

It's because I’ve known the weight

Of being stripped down to nothing.

I am silent—not because I’m awkward,

Not because I’m tired or broken;

It's because I choose my battles,

Refusing to waste my time or voice.

I am silent—cold, distant;

You can name it what you will,

But my silence is not weakness—

It is simply my peaceful choice.

Author's Notes/Comments:
