Rita of Ohio,
a friend rare,
no longer here.
Nicknamed Frippy,
true and wise,
as a friend to me.
She knew how I,
was fighting the odds,
stacked against me.
Always encouraging,
always understanding,
sweet Frippy...
"Love your afflictions"
she would tell me,
for they take you closer,
to the Almighty.
Long gone Frippy,
no longer in this world,
yet, as long as I live,
she too,
will live for me.

Author's Notes/Comments:
Rita, whose nickname was Frippy, became friends with me in 1997. She was a resident of Ohio. We became very good friends and for the next three years, she proved herself as one of the most understanding and caring friends I have ever made. This poem is dedicated to her. The last I heard was in an email from her in 2000, wherein she mentioned about her cancer, and as usual as ever ---- ever cheerful and understanding, she would tell me to "love my afflictions". I have not heard from her after that most moving email.
Nice work!
Really groovin' on the diction you have going on in this piece. Tells a good story. Keep it up. I like your stuff.
Thank you
