THE DYING LARK

I often feel
like I am a prism
breaking the truth of light
in all its visible colours;
and even those
hidden and unseen
in another dimension
of anti-matter.
Red and green seem ominous
Yellow brightens
the not so obvious.
Blue means peace
and purple symbolises
an amalgam
of infra and ultra
and ease and tension.
Cyan and magenta
are like an interpolation
meant to be there
to ward off confusion.
All these blended
and made to appear
as plain white.
Black covers up
so much in itself
just like my heart
hiding the aches
of my hurt self.
When dusk falls
and night creeps in
I switch off the lights
To steal away
A few moments
With singers like
Natalie Merchant
K.L. Saigal
Lata Mangeshkar
And Tony Bennett.
I am not dark
and yet I love
to be left alone
in the shadows
with nobody there
to even pry and find
the concealed wounds
of a dying lark.
