What is true love?
I heard a voice in the stillness of a night,
I heard it echoing,
And reverberating all around:
What is true love?
I went out into the open,
And sat in the balcony,
Wondering in amazement,
At the voice that kept on asking:
What is true love?
I felt myself speechless,
As I sought a good reply,
From within the recesses of my heart.
And then from somewhere,
An insect fell on my shoulders,
And started crawling upwards,
Almost reaching my neck and ears.
At first I was enraged,
At being disturbed so suddenly,
And that too by a black ant...
I, who was pondering on a reply,
To the question which awakened me,
Was angry at the insect.
But it was then that my heart,
Whispered softly to my soul,
Take the ant in your palms,
And give it some sugar,
As it was doing nothing but,
Seeking food since two days.
I obeyed the call,
And let the black ant go free,
And after bringing some sugar,
I sought it, in order to feed it...
But it was nowhere,
Nowhere to be seen,
I looked everywhere, all over,
But the insect had disappeared,
Silently, unseen.
And then I heard my heart again,
Telling my soul happily,
That loving God Almighty's creatures,
Especially that never mean to hurt us,
Or cause us any kind of pain,
Is the definition and the reply,
To what true love is...
And then I recalled Coleridge's lines*,
The poet who disclosed that:
"He prayeth best who loveth best,
All creatures great and small..."
And my whole being was filled,
With an inner sense of peace.
I felt enlightened and lucky,
For having rediscovered,
By the highest
It is loving God's creation,
The harmless and the helpless,
The animals, birds and insects,
The worn-out and the hungry,
The destitute and the needy,
The ones who don't spread out their palms,
In the habitual art of beggary.
It's loving our planet and its beauty,
The trees, the plants, the shrubs,
And all other things as moral duty,
It's also marvelling at and exploring,
The widespread sky's galaxies.
And also mending a broken heart,
And soothing a wounded soul,
With just a word of kindness,
Even if we can't lend our entire whole.
God Almighty makes Himself known,
To us through his creations,
In the lands, the seas and the stars,
And even inside the red-hot volcanoes,
Under the unfathomable regions of seas,
And other uncharted realms spread afar.
And thus, true love is nothing but,
Loving God through His creations,
The pre-dawn winds hummed in unison,
More sharper than the question,
Approving the answer...a revelation:
I found out true love simply means,
Loving others much much more than us,
Without a condition or a clause,
Without any doubt, excuse or fuss.
Our good Lord God is total Love,
And we are but His means of showing,
What every virtue and goodness is,
And...the meaning of true love.
Let us dissolve this truth in ourselves,
In our hearts, bodies, minds and souls,
And also keep reaffirming through our deeds,
That our thoughts know what true love is.
Hatred has no other opponent except,
What is defined as unconditional true love,
Let us all, poets, thinkers, sages and saints,
Make our Earth a haven of pure true love.
Let there be no envy nor jealousy,
On the basis of religion, race, caste and creed,
Let there survive no fantasy,
Which converts men and women into a different breed.
We are all the creation of God Most High,
And made from the same earthly dust,
Why then destroy our green paradise,
By ignoring true love and falling prey to lust?
The hours passed as I sat quiet peacefully,
Engrossed in the power of unconditional love,
Which is true, untainted and unblemished,
Which gives and gives and finds tranquility.
The hum of the breeze and the music of leaves,
Awakened in me and my heart and entire self,
That there is nothing more stronger than true love.
And as the early morning lights shown,
Far in the distance as Western Lights,
I refreshed myself like a man who must,
Spread to the world the message somewhat unknown.
I must do all I can to eliminate hate,
And the falsehoods destroying us all,
And endeavour with all my strength and faith in God,
The definition, meaning and power of true love.
