The frogs croak at night and the dogs bark,
The owl hoots, the cuckoo sings while the bats dart,
The crickets are heard enjoying their mirth,
While some men are causing mayhem on my earth.
Men in mosques hymn and pray to their God,
In their quest to avoid Hell and enter Eden,
An innocent soul on the pavement has not had a morsel,
Like many the fasting one has not even eaten.
God does not need us to sing His glories,
Neither does He need us to relate past stories,
To feed those who, despite sunset, remain hungry,
Is more important than trying to fool many.
How can I destroy the devils of this world,
How can I humble these power-obsessed tyrants,
Oh my Lord God, You, Who know the secret of all hearts,
Give me, from Your Presence, the means to be defiant.
Give me O Allah, the courage of Ali,
The valour of Hussain, the skill of Saladin.
Please O my Maker*, I pray and appeal,
Make me the reformer of this broken seal.
