JUST ONE NIGHT!

O that the moon could descend from above for just one night

So that some moments with only you are shared that night

I take great care to avoid that trodden path

Lest an innocent soul gets blamed for my plight

I know full well what the end of that bird would be,

If it fails to reach the heavens on its daring flight

Let the light of your presence be forever with me,

Who knows where my last dawn and dusk meet one night.

Author's Notes/Comments:

My rendition of a popular Urdu ghazal by Bashir Badar, a Pakistani poet. It has been sung beautifully by Masood Malik.
