TO DENISE LEVERTOV

I agree with you Denise:

"Some people,

no matter what you give them,

still want the moon."

But there is a difference:

Adam was content,

happy with his Eve,

It was the Evil One, lurking,

dissatisfied and grumbling,

Condemned to punishment,

Came like a serpent,

and seduced our parents,

Causing the great fall.

He still lurks around us,

our foremost foe,

Along with his army,

Causing us more woe.

Let's turn in remembrance,

God's gates are open,

Let us seek repentance.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Denise Levertov is a well known poet of the English language. One of his poems is among the 100 best selected by the International Library of Poetry, Maryland, USA. Here, while appreciating Levertov's thoughts, I have endeavoured to present a philosophy of my own.
