the shadows

She enters the abandoned building.

Remembering the horrors that she went through here.

The silent assailants that tormented her are but shadows now.

She walks the abandoned halls wondering why she has returned to the place that has brought her nothing but pain.

She hears the voices...taunting her...hurting her...

The shadows begin to repeat their vicious cycle

Even though they are no longer here.

A silent scream fills her mind.

The tears roll down her face.

Why have they returned?

Why can’t she escape them?

Running through the long abandoned halls,

She swears the shadows are following her.

Yelling at her.

Repeating the harsh words she’s heard before:

How worthless she is.

How her life will only be filled with pain.

She has heard those words so often before, she now believes them.

The shadows seem to surround her..

Close in on her.

She watches them.

She is scared, alone..

Crying

The shadows unrelentlessly  taunt her.

Make fun of her.

She wonders why God chose to hurt her  so much by letting the shadows torment her so.

She watches the shadows

Wonders what their next move will be.

Through the shadows, she sees something.

A  glint of metal.

It seems to call out to her.

Beckoning  her to pick it up.

Her eyes are transfixed on the metal,

She walks through the shadows to get it.

The shadows unrelentlessly torment her.

She picks up the shiny piece of metal.

Looks it over.

Notices how the blade narrows to a sharp point.

Suddenly, for reasons the shadows can’t explain,

their victim becomes strangely calm.

Silence echoes through the place that has hurt her so.

She looks at her tormentors and smiles.

"i know know where i can go where you cannot follow me. now i can finally be free."

the shadows silently watch her.

she closes her eyes and thrusts the knife into her stomach.

as she falls, the shadows close in around her.

lying there in the long abandoned hall, she waits for death to claim her. she reassures herelf she is off to a better place.

as her vision begins to slowly fade, the shadows laugh.

lying here, she realizes she has just fallen for their trap.

her cries just make the shadows laugh harder.

she knows they have won the war.

as she breathes her last breath, she asks god why he has chosen this path for her. she asks why he has never helped her.

for she realizes that even in death, she can't escape the horrors that have tormented her all her life.

even in death she has to run from the shadows.
