Childhood Friends

Laughing and playing,

We survived pirates, robbers and outlaws.

We caught frogs, fished and spent lazy days by the river.

We spent summers in our treehouse,

And winters in a snowfort.

We dodged trains ad curfews,

Chased the neighbor hood girls,

Only to discover they did not have cooties.

We learned to drive and played mailbox baseball.

Most importantly, we found strong friendship.

We went to war together,

Fought boys our own age,

Just because they were different.

We missed our families together.

I held your hand as you died.
