The Waiting Game

So I sat there waiting

For an hour or two

Tears in my eyes

Thinking about you

Staring at the telephone

Wishing it would ring

So many emotions

Waiting often brings

Trust and deception

Hope and despair

I'm grasping at straws

I'm desperate for air

What are you doing?

Where could you be?

What's kept you from calling?

You're worrying me

Something's not right

Are you hurt? Are you sick?

Is there somebody else?

Tell me, is that it?

Then the phone rings

And my heart skips a beat

Could it be you?

Is it even for me?

I answer the phone

Your voice calls my name

And this is the end

Of the waiting game
