Since she appeared whenever his marriage was about to collapse, he used to think she was a temptation, the vixen sent to test his fidelity, the desirous object he was meant to turn away from. Now he saw her as a sign of hope, evidence that relationship didn't have to be a constant struggle for power. He no longer saw her as a distraction, he saw her as his salvation.
