She perches with her tree
a wicked spear on her back
Watching for any signs of danger
Poised and ready for attack.
She jumps to a new perch
lower on the tree
and growls at a human man
who isn't where he should be.
He stares up at her in horror
saying, "Lady don't hurt me."
She plucked her spear from behind
though there was no danger she could see.
She circles the man on the ground
and stiffens if he moves.
He got up painfully from the ground
using the tree grooves.
She moved closer with her spear
despite his pitiful beg
until she smelled the metallic scent
of his blood soaked leg.
She dropped down to her knees
and hiked up his pants.
To find his leg covered in deep gashes
and crawling fire ants.
She pushed him back slowly
onto the ground.
And put a fingerto her lips
so he'd stop making annoying sounds.
She pulled a pouch from her side
with sacred healing herbs
and rubbed them along the gashes
though she looked disturbed.
The man turned green in the face
and sickened by the smell.
But magically the ants had scattered
and his leg began to get well.
The man raised his to the sky
thanking The forest Goddess Mion.
Only to scream rather girlishly
at an apprpaching Mpuntain lion
