The Plea of the Unread Book

please, oh please
won't you read me?
it's been a long and dreary existence
placed high on the top shelf
hidden and unread
many years have passed since someone last
lovingly stroked my cracked leather spine
carefully turned my tissue thin pages

please, oh please
won't you read me?
oh, I can tell you stories that will
thrill and inspire you,
delight and entice you,
frustrate and sadden you

please, oh please
won't you read me?
oh, I can teach to you
the passion of a whirlwind romance,
the sorrow of illness and death,
the trial and error of a life lived

please, oh please
won't you read me?
