"Stop stealing children," my sister said to me
as she saw yet another in my arms
You'd have to know me to understand
These two little ones, they crawl around on the carpet
Alex, she tries to eat the sun
mouth to the ground
It catches her foot in light instead
Eyes watch in wonder
still for a moment,
she is the sun.
The other, she flaps her wings
Fly Maya, fly
A shriek and a giggle
the human penguin discovers gravity
Refusing to believe its existence
she heads again for the sky
suddenly
the winged creature crashes
into the sun-catcher
and there is a tangle of sky and sun and birds
right in the middle of the living room.
