Lonely puzzle pieces

(whom everyone has forgotten)

belonging to a puzzle from long ago -

one that's been lost and broken apart,

scattered

through all four corners.

Some pieces have been lost

some were broken

others disappeared without a trace.

More than half changed their colours

and ceased to be themselves,

But a precious few

linger in dark dustly corners

emerging fleetingly,

but long enough to make people wonder

which puzzle they came from

and where they will fit themselves in.
