I sit alone in my room once again
Doing penance for my sin
I stare at the cross, aged by years
And fill my eyes with bloody tears
For every upright act of grace
For every earthy time and place
A battle wages all around
Another sin to knock me down
I fight so hard to stand and face
The misery of another day
Winning once, and losing thrice
Forfeit virtue, gaining vice
As the hour festers near
I am powerless to fear
When I pray my heart does ache
My whole body begins to shake
I cannot fight this on my own
Or I shall never make it home
Where am I to turn, what am I to say, let my cry come unto thee
"Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on me"
