It all started when 13 year old Brandi wanted to date
Mom said, "You're too young, you'll have to wait
When you turn 16 a guy can take you out"
This made Brandi mad, so she began to yell and shout
Some very hurtful words were said that night
As mother and daughter had another verbal fight
Brandi refused to speak to mom the next day before school
But mom felt comfortable about sticking to her rule
Mom didn't feel like arguing with Brandi anymore
She thought about what to say when Brandi walks through the door
Mom noticed that it had started to rain
And decided to meet Brandi's bus at the end of their lane
But the bus didn't stop there that day
Mom wondered where Brandi was as the bus faded away
Thinking Brandi had simply missed the bus
Mom started toward the school and began to fuss
She was hoping to spot Brandi along the way
But due to the rain there was no one walking that day
She had a bad feeling that just wouldn't go away
When she got back home and Brandi still wasn't there
She sat down in the nearest chair
She didn't know what to do
Speaking out loud she asked, "Brandi where are you?"
She called everyone she could think of
She even begged the man up above
Then she swiped at a slow falling tear
She began to realize this was her worse fear
Mom called the police to file a report
That's when she realized her memory was running short
She couldn't recall what Brandi wore to school that day
The police suspected that Brandi had run away
They asked mom to stay at home
Just in case Brandi tried to phone
While waiting mom went through Brandi's things
Hoping for any clues that the search may bring
About to give up she started to cross the floor
But a little voice told her not to go through the door
She sat on the bed as the tears began to fall
Praying and begging for Brandi to call
All at once she sprang from the bed
She had recalled something that Brandi had said
She impatiently waited for the computer to kick in
Once it did she didn't know where to begin
She called a friend who told her how to check the Internet
She was hoping Brandi wouldn't do anything that she'd later regret
She found out about the guy that Brandi wanted to date
To her dismay he lived in another state
Mom called the police and prayed that it wasn't too late
"Dear God, please let her see that she's just too young to date
Please send her back to me
I've tried to be the best mom that I could be" Days turned into weeks as everyone searched for the culprit Mom's thoughts ran as in a fit
Her daily prayers kept going out to the man up above
"Dear God, please give me back the child that I love
Please guide Brandi safely back
Not her remains in a body sack"
As if on cue the phone started to ring
Mom nervously anticipated the news that it would bring
As she answered, tears filled her eyes
On the other end she heard her daughter's cries
In the end it turned out well
But for a while it was a living hell.
