Vanima

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
or so I have been told.
But where does beauty come from?
Does it matter if it's young or old?
Is beauty really an outward thing?
To find oneself in that brutal swing..

With each passing day lower self esteem
fading more and more to a distant dream
people today fear rejection by looks
Not knowing why, they just do it.
Adding more styles than should ever be seen
because it's cool to dye your hair neon green.

But beauty goes beyond what man can see,
for God created you and he created me.
He created us in his image,
so therefore how can we say we're ugly?

Vanima is beauty, in an imaginary tounge
but beauty isn't imaginary, it's quite real
beauty is more of an inward way we feel.
All we need is a confirmation each day
to feel special and beautiful every way.

Vanima is the special someone
to each of us we have become.
We hold their hand each passing day
but how often do we look at them and say..
Today, you look beautiful..  You are attractive..
Or how often do we simply offer the three simple
most beautiful words of all to those we care about?
Can we say I love you, without saying Vanima...
You're beautiful!!

Author's Notes/Comments:

The word Vanima is from the Elven language written by J.R.R. Tolkien.  I wrote this poem for a special friend who I gave the nickname of Vanima to because that's what she is..  (even when she doesn't always feel it).
