She woke up, it was Wednesday, she had to get ready to go to work. While having a bowl of cereal, a perfectly adequate breakfast for a grown up, she watch the news on the TV, there had been a bus accident, some had died and the reporter was interviewing a crying witness of the accident.
She had no single memory of her crying, she had never cried in her life. Her parents had told her that when she was born they even thought she was sick or something because she did not cry, and babies are suppose to cry when they are born. When she was in elementary school, she was considered the toughest kid because nobody had ever seen her cry, while other kids seem to cry about nearly anything. When she was younger, she had seen in movies that people cry when they are cutting onions so one day she decided to try this out and went to her kitchen to cut some onions, but she did not cry. It didn’t work and she had only obtained to smell like onions all day long. On her graduation from middle school, she saw most of her friends crying about not seeing each other again and other things, but of course she didn’t cry. During high school, her best friend’s father got cancer. She felt really sad about it because she had spent a lot of time with her friend’s family, they were like a second family to her. And when her best friend told her that her dad had just died and started crying, she couldn’t cry too. You are suppose to cry when someone dies. She felt really sorry and wanted to cry so much to show her friend she was also sad about it and that she cared, but she didn’t cry.
Some people cry when they are really angry or stressed or when they laugh too hard, she didn’t. She had seen every sad-emotional movie and not cried. She didn’t even cry when her boyfriend broke up with her. He told her she was “too cold”, that he had never seen her cry or anything, and that things would not work out for them.
They always say “boys don’t cry”, but they never say girls shouldn’t, she did not agree with this and had seen boys and girls cry many times. No one had ever told her she was not suppose to cry, no silly social convention was stopping her from crying, but she simply didn’t cry.
She finished her cereal and went to work. She had a boring office job and worked from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with an hour to eat at 12:00 pm. In her way to work after having her lunch hour, she saw an ice-cream man outside her work so she decided to get some ice-cream, she loved ice-cream. There were three persons in front of her to get ice-cream, a man and a mother with her little daughter. After the mother had bought a cone for her and her daughter she realized that she did not have her purse. She had probably forgotten it at the place she had lunch or someone had grab it. She started feeling strange, what she thought were drops of water started coming out from her eyes. The girl who was still there enjoying her cone of ice-cream with her mom looked at her and asked her why was she crying and she said “I just really wanted some ice-cream” with tears in her eyes.
