A Poet's Diary

He wrote it down

Then he burned it

Captured dreams crumpled

The glow gave off a strange nuance

Everyone that knew him

Would watch in his window at night

A candle would glow through the misted air

As countless words were scribed by the candle light

He wrote of his visions

Past dreams and yesterday tomorrow's

Poems, prayers, and promises

All written there, joys stacked upon sorrows

Loves lived, lessons learned, and the cost

of all that were lost

he wrote of all and spoke of none

until he declared that he was done

And then one night

There was no more candlelight

Just a huge fire that burned so bright

The crowd gathered to watch the sight

Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust

After the pastor read the words

The lawyers read the living trust

To my beautiful boy

Who brought me so much joy

I leave to you all my earthly possessions

And hopefully happy thoughts of me, and our cherished moments

I Love You

To my loves, you know who you were,

I leave you this Diary

With all of the words and scars, it possesses

The diary had only one page

Countless torn out pages were gone

Its cover withered, showing it's age

Inside this message was drawn

I had so many words to tell you

Many nights spent screaming at this parchment

Many thoughts you never knew

I've decided to refrain from sharing

Other than this simple "I love you"

The pages were now ashes

For he had wrote it down...and burned it

Wow, that was powerful. Reminds me of one of Wallace Stevens' story metaphors in his poems. This was superb!
