My birthday
To strangers, it is an insignificant day
To my parents, it is a special date
To my friends, it is a celebration
As for me… It is a reminder
Reminder of how many turns I’ve taken around the sun
How many lessons have been learned
How many songs have been sung
And how many bridges have been burned
A reminder that I am not getting any younger
That I should sit back, think and ponder
Write a checklist, calculate the numbers
Set dreams and goals to wake up from this juvenile slumber
Reminder not to hold onto grudges
To let go of the crutches
Ignore the stares and words of the judges
Take pride in myself and lose the prejudice
A reminder to take actions towards bettering myself
Breathing, meditating, and learning to manifest
Organizing my thoughts like books on a shelf
For in life, it is do-it-yourself
Reminder to appreciate myself and find my passion
For somewhere along the way, I forgot to show my self compassion
To decorate my life with my fashion
And those around me who can’t appreciate
Can turn around and walk out the gate
My birthday
To strangers, it is an insignificant day
To my parents, it is a special date
To my friends, it is a celebration
As for me… It is a reminder
