One person
You build up your life just with support from one person growing up.
Always looking up to seeing them look down at you with a smile on there face.
With no disgrace as they admit to you the love they feel is so strong
the relationship is prolonged.
As it could be anything to make it break.
Going off to war, as you remember your last words,
receive a knock on the door
a few days later repeating in your head
the words they spoke the truth you believed
as I fall down to my knees
not even crying but only expressing what I know how to express.
Hyperventilating breaths,
quick thoughts,
a fast heartbeat,
as everything goes black,
because without them in life everything is black.
Just like wheeling a grandparent to a nursing home.
Sitting down at a table with fresh green beans and mash potatoes
as you leave you can see the lost hope in their eyes
only to find out they're neighbors had died.
Wishing you could've been by for there last breath
instead subjecting them to the alone isolation of what's suppose to be good for them,
as nurses come by with their daily medicine,
convenient bathrooms, and blended food
as they sip through the straw wondering what went wrong.
As they are already starting to forget their old lives,
then you see themselves fade through their eyes,
as you wish you could have been there.
Just wish like blowing candles off a birthday cake
as you pretend to blow then out so they can get the picture just right
only so you can look back.
Remember.
And wish.
Just wish.
As you’re reminiscing on those photos at the funeral
as you wave goodbye
to another set of lonely eyes,
that just didn't know where to go except up.
