What is this world coming to?

Where being average is an achievement, 

Where we are told we will only be just good enough,

and continue to believe it?

Where "At least I'm not a prostitute," and "at least I'm not on meth,"

Are all excuses as to why kids shouldn't have to be their best?

What is this world coming to?

Where we must be defined?

Divided in to subsections,

And placed behind a line?

Everybody is hateful and closeminded.

Each generation is more ignorant.

Kids in school are taught algebra,

But not how to pay rent.

We stress the schools and books and classes,

Then don't teach them a damn thing,

And rather than interesting them in learning,

Kids can't wait for the bell to ring.

What is this world coming to?

Where saying hello to the someone on the street,

Makes you look like a weirdo,

A pervert or a creep.

Where if you smile at stranger,

You are greeted with a frown,

Where everyone is stressed out,

And everyone is down.

What is this world coming to?

Everyone's so angry and uptight.

If two people disagree,

There's bound to be a fight.

Now I may not be beautiful,

As society would define,

But I will not be average,

My beauty is in my mind.
